U13s victorious in thriller with Bardsey
Barwick U13s emerged with victory in an exceptionally exciting match at Bardsey CC. Having lost the toss, Barwick were put into bat and plugged away nicely reaching a total of 124/4 (20.0). Bardsey is a notoriously high scoring pitch so being above the regular U13 par score of 95 seemed a decent total.
Alfie McMillan (32* ret), Jake Rogers (31* ret)
Bardsey started off at a blistering pace with the top order scoring well before being dismissed. Known representative player Sean Brassil, reached 31* before retiring looking extremely strong during his innings. Bardsey plugged away at the Barwick total reaching 97/7 after 16 overs. Where suddenly the total of 124 looked a bit short.
Some tactical nowse was employed by captain Eva Jenkins keeping the tail enders in until the end of the 17th to stop Sean Brassil returning. On the final ball of the 17th over the instruction came to Alfie McMillan to take the final wicket and allow the oppositions leading batsman to return. Alfie did just that (running out the opposition) and Sean returned to open the 19th over with Bardsey on 109/10 after 18.0.
Needing 15 to win from 12 balls the pressure was very much on Bardsey. Sean scored a single with the opening ball, allowing his no.10 to take strike. The Barwick field closed right in on the weaker batsman to ramp up the pressure even further. Eva Jenkins then stepped up to bowl the 2nd delivery of the over and clean bowled him. The game was over and Barwick had secured a R2 match with South Milford.
An excellent tactical game with some great play from both sides.
