After winning the toss, Church Fenton opted to bat first on a brand new grass pitch in Church Fenton’s opening game of the 2018 season. Opening the batting for Barwick, Eva Jenkins and Jack Rogers took to the wicket anticipating a tough innings.
Things did not begin well with Eva being caught off the very first ball of the game, opening the opportunity for an upset. Alfie McMillan came on in formidable form ,scoring 31* (4,4,4,4,4,4,1,1,1,4) during a good partnership with Jack before retiring. Replacing Alfie, Max Budd (19) continued the strong scoring including a lovely chip to fine leg for 4 and a huge 6 through the covers to the onside. After dismissals for Jack (10), Harrison Birch (21*) came in finishing well for Barwick.

Stepping into bowl, Church Fenton opening with known representative player Finn Walton (son of Northants Tim Walton). With a big total to defend Barwick still needed manage the game opening with leg spinner Vasanth Rajagopalan and pace bowler Alfie McMillan for the first 6 overs. Eva Jenkins and Ben Aston bowled the next spell with Church Fenton on 32 runs by the 12th over.
Eva then elected to use a range of bowlers until the end of the match with the highlight being a wicket taken by Callum George (bowling and catching his batsmen).
Overall a team performance with strong leadership securing victory.
